There's as much variety in making a bowl as there is in choosing how to use it. Each of my bowls is designed to be used as a receptacle for fruit, nuts, pot-pourri, peanuts, glass marbles, after-dinner mints or any other idea the owner may have. When asked to make a bowl for a specific, food-related use, I'll generally use an edible oil finish as it's easy to refresh the finish when necessary - just a quick wipe over with an oily kitchen towel and the job's done.
